When Alex Karis introduced us on Twitter it was as if heaven opened up and I found my long lost best friend…you know the one that you seem to just know each other and connect with ease. Trey Pennington lives and breathes what he teaches in social media and that feels good (I hear James Brown singing now, giggle)

Today you will have opportunity to listen to a man who really really “get’s it” down to his toes. I love how he gives nuggets to us in simple easy terms and it fits. Like this for one: was reading his interview with Jay Baer- he asked @jaybaer: Right. At some point won’t social media just be called “marketing” and/or “customer service” – when it’s the norm?
Trey’s answer
- IMHO Social media will function best when it’s integrating into normal, everyday life.
- Social media is like processor speed. Remember when we got excited about 33mhz, then 66mhz – argued about them? Now who cares?
- Eventually companies will focus all media, all associates, all processes, etc. on the people they serve
Now how novel, companies focus on the people they serve. How many of us would benefit from doing what Trey has done and become members of National Storytelling Association?
Having been always intrigued with stories, my Dad was the best story teller-did the cool voices and everything…I can see how being able to connect a good story with your audience make all the difference in the world.
Trey intrigued me today as he commented on a post at Social Media For Smart People about “The Worst Thing You Can Do In Social Networking”-he said Being a GoGiver is what it’s all about. So many folks, and especially politicians, could use your graphic as a fitting avatar—maybe there should be a requirement that if you’re going to talk about yourself non-stop on social media, you must display the horses rear as your avatar as a fair warning disclosure. (ALL political candidates would have to include such a warning when they launched a site, and then their “fans” could eventually vote to remove it as the candidate showed human qualities such as listening, caring, seeking to understand, etc.)
The mindset IS penultimate.
Building social capital (escrow) requires a perpetual focus on others and giving for others’ benefit. It really is just that simple.

He has a book coming out in March called Spitball Marketing.(sorry no link yet, when I get one you will be first to know) Trey has been one of the most quietly influential social media experts in our country. England took notice though, he will be going back to Like Minds and unveiling his book there.
